Whitemarsh Ball Survives the Fire
I graduated high school in the spring of 1978 after enjoying a stint playing first side with Whitemarsh. That was years ago. In my mind Whitemarsh certainly couldn't have survived without me, right? ... In my little tiny head, I had Whitemarsh in the toilet while I was away at college. Then, just the other day, at the 'Smell my House' party, I see the ball. I remember seeing the ball many times before in the Whitemarsh clubhouse, but this time ... maybe because I had less beer in me ... I don't know ... I noticed the date ... thought about where I was ... where the club was in the fall of 1979.
I think the process happened after I started looking through the names ... John Dyduck ... cool - Clark DeLeon ... John Siano ... Wolfy Carroll ... Wait a minute where's my name? Why didn't I sign it? Oh that's right, I was away at school. Damn they were good! and I wasn't there. I guess they didn't really miss me. ...
After that obnoxious self reflection ... I realized ... this ball and maybe a few articles written by Clark are all that's left of a magical undefeated season. What we do here - in the age of the internet is preserve the present and look to preserve the past. Feel free to email me any information related to this season or any past rugby 'stuff'.

I think you should highlight the Kevin Coady signature on the 1979 ball. It looks like a graffiti artist tag on the side of a building -- "KOOL KEV #8" with two big eyeballs sticking out from the double "O"s.
Kevin Coady was the Chase Utley of Whitemarsh during those years. The quiet constant excellence and determination that represented our club and all three sides we fielded proudly every week. Seeing Kevin's signature like a tag was like hearing Chase say "World fucking champions" in 2009.

Note: The 'Smell my House' party was a celebration of the return of the John Siano family to their house that was gutted and rebuilt after a fire in their living room last December.
